Reach Team Fundraising

For many, coming up with the money needed to go on a Reach Team is a challenge and a huge step of faith.

Over the years we have seen God’s faithfulness to provide for literally hundreds of individuals and families. Do not let this be the one thing that holds you back from going. Listed below are some of our suggestions regarding fundraising:
PERSONAL SUPPORT LETTERS
Personal support letters sent to family, friends, co‐workers and even your employer is the single most effective way to raise support. Once you have registered for a team, we will send you a sample support letter that you can customize and send. Over and over, people are surprised by the generosity and responsiveness of individuals they never would have imagined would give.

Adults may not raise funds from others within our church, except for within their own family.

We do encourage teenagers to formally seek support from within the church for their Reach Team expenses. As a church family, we share in the investment of sending youth to foreign Reach Teams.
PERSONAL EMPLOYER
Some companies have a fund specifically to support employees to good works locally and around the world. Be sure to take a moment to talk to your employer to tell them what you are doing and if they have a special giving fund.
LIMIT THE NUMBER OF SOLICITATIONS
How often can you tap people in your network? We recommend limiting requests of friends and family to once or twice every couple years. Family members may be open to supporting you more frequently.
PUBLIC PROFILES FOR TEAM MEMBERS
You can create a public profile, giving friends and family a quick and convenient way to learn more about your team and donate online. When donations are received, they are instantly credited to you. You can login to Managed Missions at any time to quickly see how much money you have raised.

OUTSIDE FUNDRAISING WEBSITES
We do not support the use of outside, online fundraising sites such as GoFundMe and CrowdFunding. Your donors will not receive tax-deductible credit if they give through these sites. Additionally, online fundraising sites charge a percentage to process donations. Those who have tried online fundraising sites in the past have generally found them ineffective for generating support.
PERSONAL SACRIFICE
Often a commitment to go requires serious personal sacrifice. Here are just a few ways to sacrifice and raise additional funds:
  • Reduce or eliminate luxury spending (coffee, eating‐out, entertainment, etc.)
  • Possibly get a temporary part‐time job or ask others if they need help with special projects
  • Collect and sell unwanted items on ebay or craigslist
TEAM FUNDRAISERS
We do not do team fundraisers. We do encourage team members to do all they can to help one another but we have found that the energy required for most team fundraisers not nearly as effective as personal fundraising.
KEEP E-MAIL ADDRESSES PRIVATE
Don't send group emails that show the addresses of all the recipients. You've got to be sensitive to privacy and not opening people up to others "replying to all" and flooding email in‐ boxes or borrowing email addresses for future solicitations. Use the "Bcc" or "blind copy" option so recipients can't see everyone else's e‐mail address.
GIVE THANKS
Most people don't mind deservedly being publicly thanked as well on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. Generosity is a virtue people appreciate being associated with. If you send around photos of the event, it might have the added benefit of being a graceful reminder.
PAYMENTS AND ACCOUNTING
Paying for a Reach Team experience comes after (not instead of) our tithes and missions faith promises.

Deposits/payments/contributions can be made online or by mailing in a check.

  • All deposits/payments/contributions are non‐refundable and non‐transferable. If contributions from the participant or donors exceed the total cost of the trip, the additional funds will be directed toward the trip's ministry efforts.
  • For online deposits/payments visit oakcreekag.org/reach and click the 'Give To Team Member' button.
  • Checks should be made payable to Discover Church and should include the team member’s name, destination country and year (ex. John Smith Puerto Rico 2023) and sent to:

    Discover Church
    Attn. Jennifer Archer
    7311 S. 13th Street
    Oak Creek, WI 53154

  • We ask that each team member follow the payment schedule as closely as possible, as each payment is connected to individual expenses due such as airline tickets, insurance, project costs, etc.
