Child Dedications

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14)

Why We Dedicate Children to the Lord

  • This child belongs to the Lord first.
He is the author of all life. He created everything there is - nothing exists that he didn’t make (John 1:3)
  • We will give an account to God for how we parented.
For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body (2 Corinthians 5:10)
  • It is a contract between parents and the Lord with no reverse clause.
Hannah Dedicates Samuel // “So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over
    to the LORD.” (Samuel 1:28)
  • Dedication does not equal salvation. It’s symbolic.
For if you tell others with your own mouth that Jesus Christ is your Lord and believe in your own heart
that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9)

How We Dedicate Children to the Lord

  • Model your faith and talk about Jesus often.
You must love God with all your heart, soul, and might. And you must think constantly about these commandments I am giving you today. You must teach them to your children and talk about them when you are at home or out for a walk; at bedtime and the first thing in the morning. Tie them on your finger, wear them on your forehead, and write them on the doorposts of your house! (Deuteronomy 6:5-8)
  • Help them develop an understanding of God, bring kids to church, lead kids to salvation and set agodly example.

Dedication Service
