Campus Questions

We held our New Campus Conversation Sunday Night service on Sunday, September 28. Hundreds of people turned out, including many from our South Shore campus. Pastor Brooks, along with several of the Oak Creek campus pastors, spoke about our vision and plans for the South Shore campus and surrounding area.

Changing Lives Church is located in a dense neighborhood area, with Cudahy High School located just a few blocks away. This makes this a very unique opportunity to really meet people where they are. Pastor had a vision of people walking from the surrounding streets to the front door. We continue to pray that this campus will be used to further advance our mission to reach our world for Christ as we lead individuals to discover and become who God has created them to be. We are believing that God will use this church to reach the whole lakeshore area.
So, where are we at in the process?
This new campus transition is currently in the hands of our attorney, Krystal Williams-Oby. She is working through all of the legal aspects of "closing" Changing Lives, and transferring ownership, property and the like over to Discover Church. This process can take months. This puts some things into a holding pattern. In the meantime, some things are moving forward in planning and dreaming stages.

What is the history of this building?
The main church building was built in 1909 as the Church of Saint Joseph, a Roman Catholic Church. In 1914, a convent was added, and in 1924, they added a school. The church was eventually sold in July 2000. The convent and school are currently being used for a fellowship hall, classrooms and youth area.

How are we supporting Changing Lives right now?
Changing Lives Church is part of our family. We are here to support and work with them as we move forward. Our pastors are their pastors, and we are here to help. From now through at least November, one of our Oak Creek campus pastors will take turns with Pastor Benny in preaching at Changing Lives.

Do we plan to have live services or live-streamed services?
It is our intention to have services be live at the South Shore campus. We are currently in the prayerful step of deciding if one of our Oak Creek pastors will become the South Shore Campus Pastor or if we will hire a new pastor to serve in this role. On special occasions, we will live-stream the service from the Oak Creek campus to the South Shore campus, so that all can participate in these special opportunities. We are also considering aligning our service times. Currently, Changing Lives meets on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. We would probably adjust that time to 9:30 a.m., and consider adding a second service at 11 a.m. Our goal is to merge our teams and NOT to replace the teams currently serving.

What are the plans for renovations?
On Wednesday, October 1, we have a team touring the church buildings to give us some ideas on what is needed in the way of upgrades to be compliant with ADA and building standards. They will also include plans for upgrades for energy efficiency, acoustics, audio/visual/lighting, future expansions, additional parking, and meeting our Discover Church standards. Likely, this work will be done in phases. No plans are currently in place. It is our desire to maintain the traditional feel of the building, while bringing it up-to-date. Some of this work will require the church to close for a period of time while the work is being completed.

Vision for Kids Ministry
We want to bring the same fun and excitement that we have in Kids Ministry at Oak Creek to South Shore. It is our goal to have Kids Sunday Services, and Wednesday night Rangers and Girls Ministries, along with Bible Quiz teams.

Vision for Youth Ministry
We want to build upon what Pastor Benny has started. Continuing to develop a good relationship with the schools, and possibly start Bible clubs. It would be great to even host a youth service at the nearby high school football stadium. We want to reach the ONE in every neighborhood.

We are excited to see what God is going to do in and through Discover Church South Shore.
